The Impact of Rwanda

The purpose of Hotel Rwanda was to inform people about how there are genocides are happening in the world. The movie informs people about how people are being treated however, also at the same time, it is telling people to pay attention to the things that are happening around the world and do something to change the world. The movie allows people to see different things that are happening inside our world.

After watching the movie, it got me shocked once again. I felt bad for the people who have been killed during the genocide because it is similar to Korean War. I cannot believe that same ethnic groups have to fight and kill each other. However, even though I feel responsible and I have to help them, it feels like there is not much I can do about it. We can think about it and feel bad for them, however, in reality, it is not possible for us to change what is happening out there. In conclusion, even though it made me feel bad, and I wanted to do something, but, because there isn't a way for me to actually help them, I hope it just become a world where there is no such thing as war or killing.

Hotel Rwanda

As I read the website and saw the movie, I was very shocked to see how the people in Rwanda are having trouble. As I saw Tutsi people get killed, it made me wander, how can same ethnic group hate each other? I was sad to see how same ethnic groups, Hutu and Tutsi were killing each other. It also made me look at it similar to Korean War. The same ethnic groups, North and South Korea, had a war and is now separated. Similar to Korean War, the people in Rwanda was killing each other just by how they look. As I researched about some information on Rwanda Genocide, I couldn't resist my feelings. As I read the article, on the 100th day, about 800,000 people of Rwanda have been killed. As I saw that number and thought about it, it felt like it was such a big number. It says that 800,000 is almost 10% of the entire population. If I think about it, 800,000 people means that the Hutu people killed nearly 8,000 people every day. In my opinion, there should be no such thing as war, because it only kills innocent people for the good of their leader.

Daddy's Hands

Daddy’s Hands

I remember Daddy’s hands folded silently in prayerand reaching out to hold me when I had a nightmare You would read quite a story in the callouses and lines years of work and worry had left their mark behind.

I remember Daddy’s hands how they held my mama tight and patted my back selfishly for something done right. There are things that I’ve forgotten that I loved about the manBut I’ll always remember the love in Daddy’s hands.

I remember Daddy’s hands working till they bled just to keep us all fed. If I could do things over I’d live my again and never take for granted the love in Daddy’s hands

Daddy’s hands were soft and kind when I was crying Daddy’s hands were hard as steel when I’d done wrong Daddy’s hands weren’t always gentle but I’ve come to understand There was always love in Daddy’s hands.

Reflection: I think that this poem is really good and something that touches my heart. As I was reading the poem, I had thought of my dad and how he works for me. He always cares for me and shows me what true love is. However, when I do something wrong, he becomes so harsh and scary. He works so much just to keep my family to not starve and be peaceful. He works his best and shows love to my mom and me. As I read the poem, it made me think one more time about how I behave to my dad and what I should be like.

Standing By

Standing By

Standing by,
All the way.
Here to help you through your day.

Holding you up,
When you are weak,
Helping you find what it is you seek.
Catching your tears,
When you cry.

Pulling you through when the tide is high.
Just being there,
Through thick and thin,
All just to say,
you are my friend.

- Brittani Kokko -

Reflection- I think that this poem has very good discription about friendship. It discribes about that your friends are always there to hold you up, wipe your tears, and just help you when you are having hard times. In my opinion, that is so true because when you have hard times, it is very good to have your friends help your way through. It is good to have a friend like that because those friends will help you through your life.
